The BlackBox Ensemble presents the virtual premiere of Erich Barganier's "Flyover Country," an evening-length piece for speaker, chamber ensemble, and fixed media based on poetry by John McCarthy, filmed and recorded live at the world premiere performance at the DiMenna Center in April 2022. McCarthy's poetry depicts a gritty, sad, and beautiful panorama of rural, pre-Y2K America and the living history of those intertwined with the region. Barganier's new work builds on the poetry through biting music and dramatic visuals to create a stark, harsh setting of McCarthy's text.
This virtual premiere will include a discussion with Erich Barganier and John McCarthy moderated by BlackBox Ensemble Artistic Director Leonard Bopp, as well as a reading of selections from McCarthy's forthcoming poetry collection. Tickets are pay what you can with a suggested donation of $15.
